Bassett Hound

The Basset Hound is a short, thick chested breed that is can also be a bit over weight at times. They have a disproprotionately big head. The big brown eyes are droopy and slightly sunken in the skull. Their skin seems to hang from their frame and lays over their head and shoulders. Bassett hounds have soft smooth ears that are long. The Basset Hound also has large paws for a breed of that size. Their fur is shiny, close cropped and thick. The Bassett hound comes in colors that can vary from black, tan, white and red or with sandy combinations.

The Basset Hound is gentle, extremely loyal, very docile and instinctively obedient. They make a great family pet because their temperament is friendly and patient. Like all dogs they require some dog obedience training and require that human owners establish pack leadership roles at an early age. They can be a bit stubborn with timid owners.

Bassets enjoy learning and learn new obediences quickly when rewarded with praise and food. Potty training can be a challenge but they do very well with patient dog obedience training. The Basset Hound have a keen sense of smell and can become easily distracted in new environments.
